Your voice is really important to be an external communicator
"We often refuse to accept just an idea because it is insensitive to the tone of voice in which it is expressed."
- Friedrich Nietzsche
It’s a quote on the “Inspiration Board” in my office that reminds me every morning of my best word on teleconferencing calls.
We all want to be “outstanding communicators” who can persuade people in our philosophy about our ideas and new strategies. Your communication is even more important when talking on your computer screen, often during five- or six-hour-long teleconferencing and video conferencing meetings.
We are in a new world that appeared almost overnight and it can be mind-boggling. Many employees are working across the zoom or Skype from home, schools are conducting classes through distance learning, and many people are being interviewed for a new job through video conferencing and telephone interviews.
We are fortunate to have these video conferencing services so that we can continue. These tools keep us all connected and keep the economy alive and we can rely on them for a while.
Presenting and speaking in a confident, believable, and engaging voice is a winning communication strategy for both teleconferencing and video conferencing.
For the past few months, we’ve all been working from home via video, audio, or telephone conferencing. Displaying outstanding communication in these formats can be a real challenge. Why? Most of us are not accustomed to relying solely on our voices to communicate our message. Right now, your voice and clear pronunciation are the keys to your professional and personal best. Your voice is the key to selling your ideas, making memorable presentations, and attracting the attention of the audience especially one that you may not be able to see.
You think through what we mean and choose the right word. However, when you say these words they will not affect what you thought they would. You will lose the audience's attention or worse, you will be interrupted by someone who feels confident about their idea.
This is when your voice is really important. Your voice is a sympathetic connection that makes your audience sympathetic to your words.
